King's Bounty: The Legend is an adventure game with tactical turn-based battles and role-playing elements. In a fairy tale fantasy world of fearless knights, evil mages, wise kings and beautiful princesses the player controls a hero. Leading their character through the game world, exploring it, commanding armies in battle and accomplishing various quests can mean great reward or huge defeats.

Gameplay is divided into two major sections: adventure mode and battle mode. While playing in adventure mode the gamer controls their character in real-time. With several classes available at the start of a new game, the player moves through the adventure map seeking various treasures, fighting monsters and accomplishing quests tasked to him by the local stewards. Once in battle mode the gamer assumes the role of a war chief, leading his troops in tactical turn-based combat. Battles take place on land or sea, in dungeons or castles or even in some items! The hero himself doesn't participate in the combat, but can assist his troops by casting spells or summoning different creatures.

This single-player epic story about good male knight hero (warrior, paladin, or mage) restores the original classic King’s Bounty game, which combines role-playing adventure and tactical battles similar to a Heroes of Might and Magic franchise.

Finishing the training at the Royal Battlegrounds to gain the 1st level of experience, you will be assigned to the vacant post of Royal Bounty Hunter and equipped with a certain number of army and magical items taken during the training. The King and his Infanta will be your first NPCs after the trainer and fake "necromancer" themselves, to talk with, to gain an information on the country and current situation, and to get a quest. Also you may increase your army buying the troops at the castle and travel with them across continent made up from linked locations.

Your character, riding a horse, travels in real-time in each location, representing the lands and waters, the undergrounds and the skies. Different treasures, items, equipment, etc. are scattered on his way, and places should be visited to acquire something useful or not. Skills, formed in the way of hierarchy with weighted nodes, may be developed with a certain number of magical crystal shards of three kinds acquired during travels. Also your career will be promoted fulfilling orders of kings.

Enemies walk on the land in real-time also, so you may avoid or attack them. The game switches into turn-based Tactics mode during the fight, where you control your troops on the battle field, cast the spells and summon powerful Spirits of Rage. Some of the powerful enemies either may be controlled by unique villains of different levels or be a one of 3 boss characters: Giant Turtle, Kraken, or Spider Widow. Some of battle fields are unique for castle sieges or challenging to check your level's adequacy. Also various traps and bonuses set on battle fields may change the course of fight.

Some of the items found and allowed to be equipped are live items. They act and change their behaviour based on the player's good or evil actions. To gain a control over them player should win the fight with their evil Spirits inside this item.

There are many talkative NPCs in the game as good as evil ones, who may give you quests to be performed in different ways. For example, to free the peasants from the terror of man-eating plants you may either kill the mother of man-eating plants or to bring her a cow to fertilize the ground to make her happy and not terrorizing the peasants. During your quests you will also set kings on the throne and overthrow them, save princesses from the dragons, search for pirates’ treasure chests, eliminate world dominant villains.

And the last, in the game you have an ability to start a family, find a wife and have children! But in addition to this, remember the fact that the number of wives with up to 4 children is not obligatory limited by one person!!!
